Publication Ethics

Jurnal Ilmiah Kesehatan Sandi Husada (JIKSH) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and promoting integrity in scholarly publishing. The journal adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing. All parties involved in the publication process—including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher—are expected to comply with the following ethical standards.

1. Duties of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to JIKSH must:

  • Submit original, unpublished work that is not under consideration by another journal.

  • Ensure that all data are accurate, reliable, and honestly presented without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate manipulation.

  • Properly acknowledge the work of others through accurate citation and referencing.

  • Avoid plagiarism, duplicate publication, redundant publication, and self-plagiarism.

  • Include as authors only those who have made substantial scholarly contributions to the research and manuscript preparation.

  • Disclose all sources of financial support and any potential conflicts of interest.

  • Obtain ethical approval from an appropriate Institutional Review Board (IRB) or Research Ethics Committee for studies involving human participants or animals.

  • Obtain informed consent from research participants whenever applicable.

  • Cooperate with the editorial office in correcting or retracting published articles if significant errors or ethical concerns are identified after publication.

2. Duties of Editors

Editors of JIKSH are responsible for:

  • Making editorial decisions solely on the basis of the scientific merit, originality, and relevance of the manuscript.

  • Ensuring a fair, unbiased, and timely peer-review process.

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and reviewer identities.

  • Avoiding conflicts of interest throughout the editorial process.

  • Investigating allegations of research misconduct, plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, authorship disputes, or unethical research practices.

  • Issuing corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions whenever necessary to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.

  • Following COPE flowcharts and guidance when handling publication ethics issues.

3. Duties of Reviewers

Peer reviewers are expected to:

  • Conduct reviews objectively, fairly, constructively, and within the agreed review period.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all manuscript contents.

  • Identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors.

  • Inform the editor of any suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, ethical concerns, or substantial similarity with previously published work.

  • Decline review invitations when conflicts of interest may compromise objectivity.

  • Refrain from using unpublished information obtained during peer review for personal or professional advantage.

4. Duties of the Publisher

The publisher of JIKSH is committed to:

  • Supporting editorial independence.

  • Maintaining the integrity of the scholarly publishing process.

  • Ensuring that editorial decisions remain free from commercial or institutional influence.

  • Cooperating with editors in investigating allegations of publication misconduct.

  • Preserving the academic record through appropriate corrections or retractions when necessary.

5. Peer Review Policy

All manuscripts submitted to JIKSH undergo an initial editorial assessment followed by a double-blind peer review conducted by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Editorial decisions are based on reviewers' recommendations, scientific quality, originality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, and relevance to the journal's scope.

6. Plagiarism Screening

Every submitted manuscript is screened using plagiarism detection software before entering the peer-review process. Manuscripts containing substantial plagiarism, duplicate publication, or unethical text recycling will be rejected. Authors may be asked to revise manuscripts with minor similarity issues before peer review.

7. Conflict of Interest

Authors, reviewers, editors, and editorial board members must disclose any financial, institutional, personal, or professional relationships that could influence the objectivity of the publication process.

8. Research Ethics

Research involving human participants must comply with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki and receive approval from an appropriate ethics committee. Research involving animals must comply with internationally recognized animal welfare guidelines. Evidence of ethical approval may be requested during editorial evaluation.

9. Data Availability and Reproducibility

Authors are encouraged to preserve research data and make supporting datasets available whenever appropriate. Editors may request access to underlying data for verification purposes.

10. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools may be used only to improve language, grammar, readability, or formatting. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all submitted content. AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Any substantial use of AI in manuscript preparation should be transparently disclosed in the manuscript.

11. Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern

JIKSH is committed to preserving the integrity of the scholarly record. When necessary, the journal will publish:

  • Correction (Erratum or Corrigendum)

  • Expression of Concern

  • Retraction

These actions will follow internationally accepted publication ethics standards and COPE recommendations.

12. Appeals and Complaints

Authors may appeal editorial decisions by submitting a written explanation supported by scientific evidence. All appeals and complaints will be handled fairly, transparently, and independently by the Editor-in-Chief in accordance with COPE guidance.

13. Publication Misconduct

Publication misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Plagiarism

  • Data fabrication

  • Data falsification

  • Image manipulation

  • Duplicate or redundant publication

  • Citation manipulation

  • Authorship disputes

  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest

  • Fraudulent peer review

  • Unethical research involving humans or animals

Confirmed misconduct may result in manuscript rejection, publication correction, article retraction, notification of the authors' institution, or other appropriate actions consistent with COPE recommendations.
