Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word format and follows the journal’s template and formatting guidelines.
  • The manuscript fits the aims and scope of the journal and contributes to the field of health policy analysis.
  • The text complies with standards of academic writing, clarity, and ethical integrity.
  • References are complete, accurate, and formatted according to the journal’s citation style.
  • Where applicable, statements on ethical approval, informed consent, funding, and competing interests are included.
  • The authors agree to the journal’s open access policy and Creative Commons Attribution–ShareAlike 4.0 (CC BY-SA 4.0) license.
  • All authors have approved the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission to the journal.

Author Guidelines

Scope

JAKESPOL: Journal of Health Policy Analysis publishes high-quality scholarly articles focusing on health policy analysis, health systems, governance, health financing, and policy formulation and implementation at national and international levels.

Manuscript Types and Word Count

  • Original Research Articles: 5,000–7,000 words (excluding references)

  • Policy Analysis Articles: 4,000–6,000 words (excluding references)

  • Review Articles: 4,000–7,000 words (excluding references)

Language

All manuscripts must be written in clear, concise, and academic English.

Manuscript Preparation

  • Manuscripts must be prepared in Microsoft Word format using the journal template.

  • Submissions must be anonymized for double-blind peer review.

  • Pages should be numbered consecutively.

Structure of the Manuscript (IMRAD)

1. Title Page

  • Concise and informative title

  • Author names, affiliations, and corresponding author details must be submitted in a separate file.

2. Abstract and Keywords

  • Structured abstract with a maximum of 250 words.

  • Abstract sections: Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion.

  • Provide 3–5 keywords in alphabetical order.

3. Introduction

  • Background and context of the study

  • Clear statement of the problem and policy relevance

  • Objectives of the study

4. Methods

  • Study design and setting

  • Data sources and data collection procedures

  • Analytical methods

  • Ethical approval and consent (if applicable)

5. Results

  • Clear and logical presentation of findings

  • Use tables and figures where appropriate

  • Avoid interpretation in this section

6. Discussion

  • Interpretation of key findings

  • Comparison with existing literature

  • Policy implications and relevance

  • Strengths and limitations of the study

7. Conclusion

  • Main conclusions of the study

  • Implications for policy and practice

  • Recommendations for future research (if applicable)

8. References

  • References must be accurate, complete, and formatted according to the journal’s citation style.

Ethics and Disclosure

Authors must include statements on ethical approval, funding, and competing interests. All submissions must comply with recognized ethical standards in research and publication.

All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution–ShareAlike 4.0 (CC BY-SA 4.0) license. Authors retain copyright of their work.

Submission and Peer Review

Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. All submissions undergo double-blind peer review.
